We discovered that many digital nomads were arriving in Sri Lanka using the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). While the ETA is designed for tourism and business purposes only, numerous websites mentioned it as an option for digital nomads. However, it is important to note that those who enter Sri Lanka with an ETA are not permitted to engage in any paid or unpaid work, remote employment, or volunteering activities on the island. Eligibility Requirements
While the Sri Lankan government has not yet published the official eligibility criteria for the digital nomad visa scheme, Project Taprobana is actively considering several key factors to enhance the chances of obtaining a residence permit. Our primary goal is to ensure that our project participants can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle and make the most of their time in this captivating island.
Please note that the specific requirements and guidelines for the digital nomad visa are subject to the government's final decision, but we are proactively strategizing to align with potential expectations. By carefully assessing various factors, we aim to optimize the application process and increase the likelihood of approval for our esteemed participants.
- You work for an employer/company registered outside Sri Lanka.
- You will work by using telecommunications technology.
- You receive income of at least $1500 a month or $18,000 within last 12 months. Additional $500 per month for spouse or dependent children.
- Proof of health insurance for your entire stay. Each dependent should have separate health insurances by their name.
* If you want to accompany your fiancee as your dependent, you should be abel to prove that you were together within last 12 months (joint travel documents, joint bank account, joint lease agreements or affidavits are accepted)
Visa Application Process

- Once you join Project Taprobana, we will send you a list of documents that you need to submit to process your visa.
- Once we have gathered all of the required documents, our legal staff will carefully review them to make sure that you meet all of the eligibility criteria.
- If you are eligible for the program, you will receive an invoice for the program. This usually takes 2 working days.
- Once you have completed the payment, our visa applictaion handling staff will submit your visa application to the Sri Lanka Immigration Department.
- You can expect a response from us within 14 working days. The timeframe may vary depending on a number of factors, but it will typically take anywhere from 2 to 14 days.
- We will send you the documents that you need to stamp your entry visa. You will then need to contact the nearest Sri Lankan embassy to make an appointment to get your visa stamped.
- Once you have your entry visa stamped, you have 30 days to enter the island.
- As soon as you have landed in Sri Lanka, our staff will begin the process of obtaining a one-year Excusive Temporary Residence Permit for you.
